About Sensei Ricky

We all know him as your favourite sensei,
but there is so much more to him than JUST a sensei.

Sensei Ricky is from Venezuela, grew up in Caracas, a lover of sports in general, he started to train Shotokan Karate at the age of 12. From the beginning he was a very good athlete. He fell in love with Martial Arts.

Being a young athlete, he has an impressive resume. He won important tournaments from a young age, the most relevant is winning the Shotokan Pan-American twice! As a teenager, he reached the finals and took 5th place at the Shotokan World Cup. 

In 2001, he got his black belt 1st Dan in Venezuela, seen and examined by Shihan Hirokazu Kanasawa, 10th Dan and Shotokan Karate Do International Federation, SKIF Founder.  And 6 years later in 2007, he got his 2nd Dan in Japan, seen and examined by Shihan Mikio Yahara, 8th Dan, Karatenomichi World Federation, KWF Founder. 

He was also the captain of the Karatenomichi National Team of Venezuela from 2009 to 2014. He represented Venezuela in many International Tournaments around the world, such as US Open Karate four times and Karatenomichi World Cup in Japan 2007 where his major achievement took place as becoming world champion in the category Team Kumite, made the finals in Kata and Quarter finals in individual Kumite.

He was a member of the State Team for 15 consecutive years and represented his state as a professional competitor in the highest tournaments at national level in Venezuela.  Achievements include winning many medals for Miranda state throughout his career in the category kumite and team kumite.

Thanks to his sensei, Cristina Reyes, support in 2010, he started his journey to become a Sensei. Ricky was in charge of the main dojo of Karatenomichi Venezuela for the next two years.

In 2015, Ricky and his family decided to immigrate to Australia to start a new life experience. He started teaching Martial Arts again, doing what he loves best and fulfilling his dream of opening his own dojo.
